SKINLAB Completes Work On Live Album
January 17, 2008Bassist/vocalist Steev Esquivel of the veteran San Francisco Bay Area metallers SKINLAB has issued the following update:
"[The SKINLAB live album] 'Skinnedalive!' [which was recorded on June 3, 2007 at The Metro in Oakland, California] is complete and sounds bad-ass!! We've had this on the backburner until we could get to the mixes and finalize everything. I have to say I'm glad we waited so long. Juan [Urteaga, producer] was able to put the energy and time into the mix to make everything sounds great; we're very pleased with the outcome. We be posting the some artwork, track listing and release date shortly. Along with snippets of select tracks will be posted on our MySpace page soon.
"We recently signed a deal with BCD Music Group for the release of 'Skinnedalive!', We're very pleased to be working with BCD, as they've shown nothing but excitement and enthusiasm about working with us. I have no doubt that they're gonna kick ass and market this album the way it should be.
"We'll keep you looped as we get closer to letting you rockin' some 'Skinnedalive!'
"Speaking of 'Skinnedalive!', we've been added the FORBIDDEN show on February 24 at The Fat Cat Modesto. We're fuckin' stoked to play this show. Couldn't ask for a better show to start the New Year off with... See ya in the pit!!
"As far as the NEW album... We've been working really hard writing the new record. Everyone has really stepped up to the plate once again. The songs are coming together and starting to take on a life of their own. So far we've written 9-10 songs complete, with a few others still taking shape. Probably the heaviest shit we've ever written, but at the same time very dynamic and emotional with tons of hooks and beatdown parts.
"We've taken a new approach this time around — we want this to be the the heaviest, fastest, ugliest music we've ever written. At the same time it's our fourth full-length record, it should show maturity, and I think we accomplished that.
"With any luck we'll have this record out mid-2008."
SKINLAB recently posted the album version of a brand new song entitled "Face of Aggression" on its MySpace page.
Commented the band: "Originally we planned on releasing a digital EP, 'Digikill'. After much thought and discussions with the label, we decided to pull the plug on the EP and focus on writting for the remainder of 2007. With this being said, we are releasing 'Face of Aggression' as a holiday gift to you.
"We realize that we've been out of the the scene for a bit and want to show the world that SKINLAB is far from over. The shit we're writing right now is slammin' — just straight-up brutal heaviness with bits of all albums guaranteed to make you labrats happy.
"'Face of Aggression' is the first song written for the album. It's probably the most straight-forward song written so far. It definitely represents a new and hungrier SKINLAB... Hope ya'll dig it!"
SKINLAB's 1997 debut album, "Bound, Gagged and Blindfolded", was reissued on October 2, 2007 via Century Media Records. The repackaged disc features never-before-seen video footage and pictures with liner notes from founding members Steev Esquivel and Mike Roberts along with new artwork layout.
SKINLAB recently inked a two-album deal with Crash Music Inc.
SKINLAB has set "Now That You're One of Us" as the title of its upcoming DVD.
SKINLAB's current lineup:
Paul Hopkins - Drums
